Amalia Del Ponte was invited by Umbro Apollonio and Bruno Munari along with Vincenzo Agnetti, Mario Balocco, Mirella Bentivoglio, Pierpaolo Calzolari, Giulio Paolini, Ettore Sotsass, Pine Tablecloth, Giancarlo Zen.
She won First Prize for Sculpture at the International Biennial of Art in Sao Paulo

“The 12th Sao Paulo Biennale deserves credit for structuring itself in such a way to fulfill the needs of the modern creative world, to better respond to the ongoing changes… As for the welcome, strongly adfirmed relationship between the different areas of human activity – i.e. a form of communication that includes all the different visual aspects of reality – Amalia Del Ponte conducts her research towards the construction of environments, where a sculpture, together with light, may act as an activating element. These are elementary solids, primary structures – as they have been labelled – and yet free from the imposing stillness usually associated to these terms. On the contrary, they move, activated by a spatial context reflected onto them. The fixed shape absorbs what is on the outside, and embarks on a series of exchanges and encounters that eventually integrate it with the natural environment. A problem more or less shared with a space filled with various elements more or less directly related, almost a sort of spectacle, like that created by Calzolari”.
